Back when she attended the US Weekly Hotlist Party earlier this year, Anna did this little photoshoot, and you can see it in the gallery below. Thank you once again to Dbiloo for sending these to us!
Taglined “An epic of epic epicness,” director Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s popular comic book series, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, hits theaters with Biblical force this Friday. Archetypal awkward youth Michael Cera plays the titular character, a 22-year-old bass player who falls in love with a girl only to learn that she has seven evil ex-boyfriends, all of whom are hell-bent on killing him. Anna Kendrick, who plays Scott’s reliable sister Stacey, says her character is “the voice in the back of [Scott's] head that he knows he’s not going to listen to.” We spoke to Kendrick about filming Scott Pilgrim, Comic Con, and Twilight mania (or lack thereof).
CAROLINE BANKOFF: Hello, Anna! Where are you calling from?
ANNA KENDRICK: I’m in Toronto. We have the Toronto premiere of Scott Pilgrim tonight–we filmed it in Toronto, so it’s a homecoming of sorts.
BANKOFF: How’s your summer been so far? What have you been up to?
KENDRICK: I don’t know, really. Just kind of doing the press tour and stuff. And watching a lot of movies.
BANKOFF: And you just went to Comic Con to promote Scott Pilgrim, right?
KENDRICK: Yeah. It was great; it was amazing. I mean, the film is obviously for comic fans, and they seemed to love it, which is a huge relief. Those are your toughest critics, in a way.
Here’s another new interview and photoshoot with Anna and “Scott Pilgrim vs the World” co-star Jason Schwartzman:
Scott Pilgrim’s Jason Schwartzman and Anna Kendrick talk evil exes, real and fictional
Jason Schwartzman walks into a hotel room strumming a guitar, with a Cheeto affixed to his dress shirt. The publicist warns that, prior to this, he’s been conducting all interviews — and photo shoots — in a bathrobe, so anything could happen.
This isn’t so unexpected; after all, the 30-year-old actor is known for his roles in quirky indie films, from his debut as a young nebbish in Wes Anderson’s Rushmore to a love interest in Shopgirl, followed by more Anderson films — The Darjeeling Limited and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Now, he’s playing evil ex-boyfriend Gideon Gordon Graves in Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, the much-hyped screen adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic series. One of his many co-stars is the Oscar-nominated Anna Kendrick (of Up in the Air and the Twilight films), who comes trailing into the room behind him, looking entirely normal.
Anna Kendrick wasn’t sure what to think the first time she read Michael Bacall and director Edgar Wright’s screenplay for “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” an adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series about a Toronto bass player who must battle his new girlfriend’s seven evil exes before he can finally win her heart. The Oscar-nominated actress (“Up in the Air”) could not quite imagine how the words on the page would play on screen.
“Obviously, it’s a fantastic script, but it’s a little schizophrenic,” she says. “It’s a really difficult energy and tone to put on paper. The visual style is so much faster than your brain can read.”
Here is a great new interview Anna did with the Boston Globe and it includes a great new photoshoot picture as well. Enjoy!

From Portland to Hollywood, Anna Kendrick is on a meteoric rise
Anna Kendrick has become “that girl.’’ Most notably, she’s that girl from “Up in the Air,’’ the peppy one whose sparring with George Clooney earned her a nomination for best supporting actress at this year’s Oscars. To the indie movie crowd, Kendrick is that girl who played spitfire Ginny Ryerson from 2007’s “Rocket Science.’’ And to a different segment of the population — the one that’s still debating Team Edward vs. Team Jacob — Kendrick is that girl from the “Twilight’’ series, the too-peppy, self-absorbed Jessica, who steals many a scene from her brooding costars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
And now, because of her small-but-sharp role in the film adaptation of the comic book “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,’’ Kendrick will be a geek-love hero for bringing Scott’s endearingly judgmental sister, Stacey Pilgrim, to life on the big screen. The movie tells the story of Scott, who must fight his new girlfriend’s evil exes in order to win her heart. Those exes are played by a number of familiar faces, including “Fantastic Four’’ star Chris Evans, Brandon Routh of “Superman,’’ and Jason Schwartzman of “Rushmore.’’
Anna and the “Scott Pilgrim” crew are now in Boston and here is a new portrait they did for the Boston Globe, before hitting a screening for a Q&A session with fans.
Added 10 gorgeous outtakes from Anna’s shoot for the Beautiful People issue of Paper magazine from April of this year, thank you very much to Dbiloo for sending them to us. And just realized we never added the HQ scan of Anna’s page from the magazine, so that is now in the gallery as well. Enjoy!
I’ve added untagged/slightly blurry versions of Anna’s recent photoshoots for Vanity Fair, Angeleno and Riviera. The tagged versions will remain in the gallery as well because they are clearer. Too bad we can’t have both combined into one!
How actress Anna Kendrick survived the Twilight zone
You might think that starring in the Twilight movies and notching up an Oscar nomination opposite George Clooney would go to a girl’s head… Not so, discovers Lina Das, for actress Anna Kendrick
Anna Kendrick slips without fanfare into the lobby of the West Hollywood hotel where we are scheduled to meet: some achievement given that she’s part of the teen-idolised Twilight cast, whose every move is usually accompanied by ear-splitting shrieks from adolescent fans. But Anna insists: ‘I’m one of the few who gets to leave home and not be followed around. Actually, when I do get children coming up to me, it makes me slightly nervous because I feel like I have to be on my best behaviour. I have a habit of cursing, so I have to keep it reined in. It feels like I’m visiting my grandmother!’
The Twilight films, based on the bestselling novels of Stephenie Meyer, centre on the love story between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and the vampiric Edward Cullen (played by our own Robert Pattinson), who vies for her affections with Bella’s childhood friend – and werewolf – Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Anna, as Bella’s best friend Jessica Stanley, has one of the more fun parts in the film, unleashing all manner of teenage cattiness as she struggles with her envy of Bella’s popularity.
In truth, relations between Anna and Kristen are much warmer. ‘When I met Kristen, I knew her from some of her other films,’ says Anna, ‘and it’s so strange because she turned into my friend, and then just as quickly turned into one of the biggest stars on the planet. I’m on the outside and I really don’t know what to make of it even now. I can’t imagine what she and Rob are going through.’ Particularly as Kristen and Rob have themselves been dating since last year.
